The backstory This restaurant, tucked inside a mid-century hotel that looks like a cross between a middle school and a YMCA, is the latest from the team behind the South End's Beehive and Harvard Square's Beat Brew Hall. The exterior might give you flashbacks to calculus class, but inside it's adults-friendly. The 30-seat bar swarms with folks drinking margaritas; a languid techno-bop loops on the speakers; and a picture of a sombrero-wearing worm (is it a worm?) welcomes guests: "Now entering the pants optional portion of the evening." Executive chef Colton Coburn-Wood, who has worked at Beat and Yellow Door Taqueria, heads up the kitchen.

What to eat Mexican street food with some detours and plenty of gluten-free choices. The menu is divided into plates, tacos and bowls, and specialties. Start with chips (sturdy and salty); guacamole arrives a bit too cold and a bit too quickly, but a smoky, smooth red salsa makes up for it. Tamale Colorado is served de-husked, stuffed with pork braised in spicy red chili, a healthy splash of salsa verde, and pickled cauliflower and carrots. As with its sibling restaurants, veggie lovers are well-tended at Cósmica: Try Brussels sprouts with raisins and toasted almonds ($13); corn (off the cob, $13); and sweet potato-mushroom tacos, served as an ancient grains bowl ($19) or on organic corn tortillas ($12). For heartier appetites, a lime-inflected hominy adobo lamb stew ($24) or duck and pork carnitas, served with plantains ($23), both gluten-free.

What to drink Margaritas on tap, boozy slushies (a-swirl behind the bar), red and white sangria, Modelo on tap, and a long roster of tequila and mezcal shots.

The Takeaway A cheerful nook with congenial service and lots of options for gluten-free diners. My server wanted to know whether I was stopping in for a bite after work, appeared routinely at my side to inquire about my first few bites of each dish, and even preemptively assured me that his credit-card machine had been thoroughly sanitized before I signed my check tableside. This hospitality appears to extend to the hotel: One weary traveler whose room wasn't yet ready was told that she could simply stretch out in another one until her bed was made.

Deputies: Man without pants on breaks into South Hill homes - KXLY Spokane

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:32 PM PST

Police lights

SPOKANE, Wash. — A man who appeared to be high on drugs walked into a home on Spokane's South Hill without wearing any pants.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office was called to the area on S. Madelia St. on Monday night for reports of a possible attempted burglary. The victims reported the man, later identified as 23-year-old Justin A. Silva, had tried to enter their home through a locked door.

Deputies responded to the scene to look for Silva as another caller reported the man was inside his home. The second victim said Silva was standing inside his home, naked from the waist down, near the door to the kitchen. He reportedly picked up his pants and started to walk toward the victim's teenage daughter, who was sitting in the kitchen.

The victim told Silva to get out of the house and ended up pushing him out of the front door, deputies said.

The SCSO said a third victim reported that Silva had been in her garage throwing bikes around and was on standing on her patio.

Deputies found Silva in the backyard and took him into custody without incident. He appeared to be intoxicated or high and admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana.

He was booked into the Spokane County Jail for residential burglary with sexual motivation and indecent exposure. He was released the following day on his own recognizance.

LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock Police arrested Dexter Lamont Wilkerson, 46, late Wednesday night and accused him of theft. Police were called to the Walmart at 702 West Loop 289.

Employees told police that Wilkerson came into the store on a "riding cart." The police report said he went to the frozen food section of the store and began to put items in his pants.

The police report said he then went to the meats section and put more items in his pants.

He then put "two other items" in a shopping basket. The police report said he paid for the items in the basket but not the items he stuffed in his pants.

When confronted by a Walmart employee at the exit, he tried to run. Police arrived right about the time Wilkerson tried to run, according to the police report. He was "assisted to the ground" and placed in handcuffs.

Police found a number of items in his pants after he was arrested. The items were left with a Walmart employee. The charge against Wilkerson was theft in the category of more than $100 but less than $750.

Wilkerson was also wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He remained in the Lubbock County Detention Center as of Friday on bonds totaling $5,750.00.
